Dahulu,bumi satu daratan dalam "PANGAEA"


Asal Mula Beragam Benua di Bumi

Pernah tahu kata Pangaea? Paham artinya? Pangaea adalah kesatuan benua berupa satu daratan yang besar. Itu adalah keadaan awal Bumi yang kita tempati sekarang.

Jadi, Benua Amerika, Asia, Eropa, dan Afrika dkk dulu tidak terpisah lautan. Melainkan, menjadi satu yang disebut Pangaea itu. Pangaea adalah superbenua yang ada selama era Paleozoikum dan Mesozoikum (sekitar 250 juta tahun lalu). Laut tunggal sangat besar yang mengelilingi Pangaea diketahui sebagai Panthalassa.

Nama Pangaea kali pertama digunakan pencetus teori pergeseran benua asal Jerman, Alfred Wegener. Dia menulisnya pada buku yang berjudul The Origin of Continents and Ocean (Entstehung Die Kontinente und der Ozeane) pada 1920. Isinya menunjukkan bahwa superbenua Pangaea memainkan peran kunci pembentukan benua dan samudra.

Ada tiga fase utama dalam pecahnya Pangaea. Fase pertama dimulai pada masa Permian hingga masa Jurassic (200-135 juta tahun lalu).

Pada masa Permian, kurang lebih pada 225 juta tahun lalu, mulai ada keretakan di daerah selatan. Yaitu, terpisahnya daerah Antartika, India, dan Australia.

Kemudian di zaman Triassic, keretakan terjadi di timur Tethys Ocean dan Pasifik Barat. Peristiwa tersebut mengakibatkan terpisahnya bagian yang kini diyakini sebagai Amerika Utara dan Afrika. Juga, adanya laut baru, yaitu Samudra Atlantik.

Berlanjut ke zaman Jurassic sekitar (135 tahun lalu), India bergerak ke arah timur dan memisahkan diri dari Afrika. Pergerakan dari Antartika dan Australia semakin menjauh ke arah selatan.

Fase kedua dalam pecahnya Pangaea dimulai pada zaman Cretaceous Awal (150-140 juta tahun lalu). Saat itu, superbenua kecil, Gondwana, mengalami keretakan yang cukup besar. Yaitu, dominasi utama Amerika Selatan dan Afrika di Gondwana mulai tak tampak.

Amerika Selatan bergerak searah jarum jam mendekati Antartika dan Australia, sedangkan Afrika semakin lengket dengan Eurasia. Namun, tidak diikuti pulau besar dari Afrika, yaitu Madagaskar. Pulau tersebut sudah berdiri sendiri.

Bagian utara juga menunjukkan tanda-tanda terpisah. Yaitu, Laurasia, gabungan antara Amerika Utara dan Eurasia. Tinggal ujung sebelah timur yang masih menyatu dengan daratan Eurasia.

Fase akhir dari pecahnya Pangaea terjadi pada awal Kenozoikum (Paleosen untuk Oligosen). Amerika Utara atau Greenland melepaskan diri dari Eurasia, membuka Laut Norwegia sekitar 60-55 juta tahun lalu. Atlantik dan Hindia terus berkembang, menutup Tethys Ocean.

Sementara itu, Australia memisahkan diri dari Antartika dan bergerak cepat ke utara. Baik Australia maupun India saat ini bergerak di arah timur laut pada 5-6 cm (2-3 inci) per tahun. Antartika telah dekat atau di Kutub Selatan sejak pembentukan Pangaea sekitar 250 juta tahun lalu.

Adanya pergerakan benua dalam fenomena Pangaea menunjukkan bahwa lempeng-lempeng bumi itu terus bergerak sehingga saat ini dunia dibagi dalam 8 lempeng besar: Lempeng Afrika, Lempeng Antarktika, Lempeng Australia, Lempeng Eurasia, Lempeng Amerika Utara, Lempeng Amerika Selatan, dan Lempeng Pasifik. Siklus urutan Pergerakan teori Pangaea

Berawal dari zaman Permian 225 juta tahun lalu, bagian selatan Benua Pangaea telah mengalami pergerakan sehingga mulai terlihat daerah yang kini diyakini Antartika, Australia, dan India.

Zaman Triassic 200 juta tahun lalu. Pergerakan terjadi di utara Pangaea, tepatnya di sisi timur Laut Tethys dan sisi barat Pasifik. Itu menyebabkan terbentuknya Amerika Utara dan Eurasia serta Gondwana (Afrika dan Amerika Selatan).

Bergerak menuju 135 juta tahun silam, ketika zaman Jurassic dimulai. Saat itu pergerakan lempeng cukup signifikan sehingga mulai tampak Amerika Utara hendak melepaskan diri dari Eurasia, sedangkan Amerika Selatan sudah siap-siap untuk hengkang dari Afrika. Yang terlihat semakin independen adalah India yang terus bergerak ke arah timur.

Zaman Cretaceous, 60 juta tahun lalu. Amerika Selatan mulai lepas dari Afrika. Akhirnya Amerika Utara dan Selatan bergabung, sedangkan Australia membentuk daratan Oceania. India menyatu kembali ke Asia.

Keadaan bumi pada zaman kita sekarang. Pergerakan akan terus berjalan, namun lebih stabil.

Gunung berapi




Gunung berapi Mahameru atau Semeru di belakang. Latar depan adalah kaldera Bromo, Jawa Timur, Indonesia.



Letusan gunung berapi dapat berakibat buruk terhadap margasatwa lokal, dan juga manusia.
Gunung berapi atau gunung api secara umum adalah istilah yang dapat didefinisikan sebagai suatu sistem saluran fluida panas (batuan dalam wujud cair atau lava) yang memanjang dari kedalaman sekitar 10 km di bawah permukaan bumi sampai ke permukaan bumi, termasuk endapan hasil akumulasi material yang dikeluarkan pada saat meletus.
Lebih lanjut, istilah gunung api ini juga dipakai untuk menamai fenomena pembentukan ice volcanoes atau gunung api es dan mud volcanoes atau gunung api lumpur. Gunung api es biasa terjadi di daerah yang mempunyai musim dingin bersalju, sedangkan gunung api lumpur dapat kita lihat di daerah Kuwu, Purwodadi, Jawa Tengah. Masyarakat sekitar menyebut fenomena di Kuwu tersebut dengan istilah Bledug Kuwu
Gunung berapi terdapat di seluruh dunia, tetapi lokasi gunung berapi yang paling dikenali adalah gunung berapi yang berada di sepanjang busur Cincin Api Pasifik (Pacific Ring of Fire). Busur Cincin Api Pasifik merupakan garis bergeseknya antara dua lempengan tektonik.
Gunung berapi terdapat dalam beberapa bentuk sepanjang masa hidupnya. Gunung berapi yang aktif mungkin berubah menjadi separuh aktif, istirahat, sebelum akhirnya menjadi tidak aktif atau mati. Bagaimanapun gunung berapi mampu istirahat dalam waktu 610 tahun sebelum berubah menjadi aktif kembali. Oleh itu, sulit untuk menentukan keadaan sebenarnya daripada suatu gunung berapi itu, apakah gunung berapi itu berada dalam keadaan istirahat atau telah mati.
Apabila gunung berapi meletus, magma yang terkandung di dalam kamar magmar di bawah gunung berapi meletus keluar sebagai lahar atau lava. Selain daripada aliran lava, kehancuran oleh gunung berapi disebabkan melalui berbagai cara seperti berikut:

  • Aliran lava.
  • Letusan gunung berapi.
  • Aliran lumpur.
  • Abu.
  • Kebakaran hutan.
  • Gas beracun.
  • Gelombang tsunami.
  • Gempa bumi.

Jenis gunung berapi berdasarkan bentuknya

Stratovolcano
 
Tersusun dari batuan hasil letusan dengan tipe letusan berubah-ubah sehingga dapat menghasilkan susunan yang berlapis-lapis dari beberapa jenis batuan, sehingga membentuk suatu kerucut besar (raksasa), kadang-kadang bentuknya tidak beraturan, karena letusan terjadi sudah beberapa ratus kali. Gunung Merapi merupakan jenis ini.
Perisai
 
Tersusun dari batuan aliran lava yang pada saat diendapkan masih cair, sehingga tidak sempat membentuk suatu kerucut yang tinggi (curam), bentuknya akan berlereng landai, dan susunannya terdiri dari batuan yang bersifat basaltik. Contoh bentuk gunung berapi ini terdapat di kepulauan Hawai.
Cinder Cone
 
Merupakan gunung berapi yang abu dan pecahan kecil batuan vulkanik menyebar di sekeliling gunung. Sebagian besar gunung jenis ini membentuk mangkuk di puncaknya. Jarang yang tingginya di atas 500 meter dari tanah di sekitarnya.
Kaldera
 
Gunung berapi jenis ini terbentuk dari ledakan yang sangat kuat yang melempar ujung atas gunung sehingga membentuk cekungan. Gunung Bromo merupakan jenis ini.

Klasifikasi gunung berapi di Indonesia

Tipe A
Gunung berapi yang pernah mengalami erupsi magmatik sekurang-kurangnya satu kali sesudah tahun 1600.
Tipe B
Gunung berapi yang sesudah tahun 1600 belum lagi mengadakan erupsi magmatik, namun masih memperlihatkan gejala kegiatan seperti kegiatan solfatara.
Tipe C
Gunung berapi yang erupsinya tidak diketahui dalam sejarah manusia, namun masih terdapat tanda-tanda kegiatan masa lampau berupa lapangan solfatara/fumarola pada tingkah lemahLihat pula
